The match was announced in BCM, January 1929, thus: "A match will be played in London early in January between E. Colle, Belgian Champion, and W. Winter." BCM had nothing further to say. The Exeter and Plymouth Gazette for 7 February 1929 reported that the match ended in a 5-5 draw, both players having won two games, with six draws. The Yorkshire Post, 23 January 1929, reported that "the chess match played at the Imperial Chess Club, London, between Colle, the Belgian champion, and W. Winter, one of the strongest London players, was declared a draw yesterday by mutual consent after the tenth game. Each player had scored two wins, and six games were drawn. The second and eighth games were won by Colle, and the fifth and tenth (and last) game by Winter."

Additional information: the Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant for Saturday 12 January 1929 said that the match had been going 'since last Thursday' so the first game must have been played on 10 January 1929. We have a date of 15 January 1929 for the fifth game, so it seems reasonable to assume that intervening games were played on 11, 12, 13 January with Sunday 14 January being a free day. It has not yet been possible to determine the dates that games 7-9 were played. JS
